Chattanooga Hydrocollator M-2 Rack – Item 22304

The M-2 Rack, Chattanooga item number 22304, is a replacement stainless steel insert designed specifically for the Chattanooga Hydrocollator M-2 Heating Unit. It sits inside the tank and helps organize, separate, and support HotPacs while they are heated and stored.

The rack is an important internal component of the Hydrocollator. It keeps HotPacs positioned within the heated water while helping prevent them from resting directly against the heating element and other components at the bottom of the tank.

Item 22304 is designed for the M-2 model and holds up to 12 standard-size HotPacs.

Why the Internal Rack Is Important

A properly installed rack helps maintain an organized treatment area and makes it easier for staff to add or remove HotPacs throughout the day. The open-wire design allows heated water to circulate around the packs so they can warm evenly.

The rack also creates separation between the HotPacs and the lower internal components of the Hydrocollator. Using the unit without the correct insert may allow packs to settle against the heating element, thermostat area, or bottom of the tank.

Common Reasons for Replacement

The original rack may eventually need to be replaced because of regular clinical use, mineral buildup, accidental damage, or long-term exposure to heated water.

A replacement may be appropriate if:

The wire frame is bent or distorted
Welded joints are broken or separating
The rack no longer sits correctly inside the tank
Sections of the rack are damaged or missing
Corrosion or heavy mineral buildup cannot be removed
HotPacs are no longer being held securely
The original insert was lost during cleaning or service

A damaged rack should be replaced before it interferes with the safe placement or removal of HotPacs.

Stainless Steel Construction

The M-2 Rack is made from stainless steel for durability in the warm, wet environment inside the Hydrocollator tank. Stainless steel is well suited for repeated exposure to heated water and routine cleaning.

Regular maintenance is still important. Mineral deposits can accumulate on the rack, particularly in areas with hard water. The insert should be inspected and cleaned according to the Hydrocollator maintenance instructions.

Avoid using abrasive tools or harsh chemicals that could damage the rack or contaminate the tank.

Designed for the Hydrocollator M-2

Chattanooga part 22304 is manufactured as a replacement rack assembly for the M-2 Hydrocollator, including compatible 110/120-volt and 220/240-volt versions.

This rack is not intended as a universal replacement for every Hydrocollator model. Other models use different rack sizes and configurations.

Examples include:

E-1 rack — item 21062
M-2 rack — item 22304
M-4 rack — item 22374

Always verify the model number on the Hydrocollator identification label before ordering.

Installation and Maintenance

Before removing or installing the rack:

Disconnect the Hydrocollator from electrical power
Allow the water and stainless-steel surfaces to cool
Remove all HotPacs from the tank
Drain the unit if necessary
Inspect the interior for mineral buildup or damage
Confirm that the replacement rack sits level and securely

The rack should be positioned correctly before the unit is refilled and returned to service. It should not interfere with the heating element, thermostat, drain, or other internal components.

Routine cleaning of both the rack and tank can help maintain proper water circulation and extend the service life of the equipment.
