Description
Chattanooga Hydrocollator SS-2 Mobile Heating Unit w/8 Standard size Hotpacs
The Hydrocollator SS-2 is a professional moist-heat therapy unit designed for physical therapy clinics, rehabilitation centers, chiropractic offices, athletic training rooms, hospitals, and other healthcare environments. Built from high-quality stainless steel, the unit provides a reliable supply of heated HotPacs for daily clinical use.
The SS-2 is smaller than the M-2 and M-4 mobile models, making it a practical option for facilities that need dependable HotPac capacity without requiring a larger footprint. Its mobile design, durable construction, and straightforward operation make it well suited for clinics with limited space or moderate treatment volume.
Holds Up to Eight Standard HotPacs
The Hydrocollator SS-2 is commonly supplied with eight standard-size HotPacs. Depending on the product configuration, it may also be packaged with a combination of standard, cervical, and oversize packs.

Consistent Moist-Heat Therapy
The Hydrocollator SS-2 heats and stores Chattanooga HotPacs in thermostatically controlled water. The unit maintains an operating temperature of approximately 160°F to 165°F, helping clinics keep HotPacs ready for treatment throughout the day.
Moist heat is commonly used by healthcare professionals before stretching, therapeutic exercise, massage, manual therapy, and other rehabilitation treatments. The heated pack must always be placed inside an appropriate terry cover with sufficient insulating layers before being applied to a patient.
Treatment temperature, duration, and application should be determined by a qualified healthcare provider.
Durable Stainless-Steel Construction
The tank and exterior are constructed from stainless steel for durability in professional healthcare environments. Stainless steel is well suited for repeated exposure to warm water and routine cleaning.
The SS-2 also includes fiberglass insulation, which helps reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency. Its removable internal rack organizes the HotPacs and keeps them positioned away from the heating components at the bottom of the tank.
Routine cleaning remains important. Mineral deposits and sediment can accumulate inside the unit, particularly in facilities with hard water. The tank and rack should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Mobile Design with Swivel Casters
The Hydrocollator SS-2 is mounted on 3-inch swivel rubber casters, allowing it to be moved between treatment areas when empty or when proper safety procedures are followed.
The rubber casters are designed to provide quiet, smooth movement across clinic flooring. During normal operation, the unit should remain on a level and stable surface.
Because the tank contains hot water, the unit should not be moved while filled unless the manufacturer’s instructions permit it and staff follow appropriate safety procedures.
Easy to Fill, Drain, and Maintain
The Hydrocollator SS-2 does not require permanent plumbing. The unit can be filled manually and connected to a standard compatible electrical outlet.
A drain valve allows the water to be removed during cleaning and maintenance. Before draining or servicing the unit, it should be disconnected from electrical power and allowed to cool.
The simple design makes it easier for clinics to perform routine maintenance, including:
- Draining and replacing the water
- Cleaning the stainless-steel tank
- Removing mineral buildup
- Inspecting the internal rack
- Checking the power cord and controls
- Examining the casters and drain valve
- Monitoring the water temperature
