Description
Thermostat for Hydrocollator – Item 10631
The Thermostat for Hydrocollator, item 10631, is a replacement temperature-control component designed for compatible Chattanooga Hydrocollator heating units, including the E-1, E-2, SS-2,M-2 and M-4 models.
The thermostat helps regulate the water temperature by controlling when the heating element turns on and off. Over time, the original thermostat may become worn, damaged, electrically inactive, or unable to maintain the proper operating temperature. When this happens, the Hydrocollator may still power on, but the water may remain only warm, heat inconsistently, or fail to reach the correct treatment temperature.
Common Signs of a Failing Thermostat
A replacement thermostat may be needed if:
- The unit powers on but does not heat properly
- The water becomes warm but never reaches normal operating temperature
- The temperature rises and falls unpredictably
- The heating element does not engage consistently
- The unit overheats or heats for longer than expected
- Electrical testing indicates that the thermostat is not functioning correctly
- The thermostat shows visible wear, corrosion, or damage
A low-temperature or no-heat condition can also be caused by the heating element or overtemperature safety switch, so all related components should be inspected before determining the source of the problem.
Recommended Related Parts
When replacing the thermostat, we generally recommend replacing the following components at the same time:
- 10631 — Thermostat
- 10630 — Heating Element (Not for M-4)
- 20548 — Overtemp Switch
These three parts work together to regulate heat and protect the unit from unsafe operating temperatures. If one component has failed because of age, corrosion, or electrical wear, the other components may also be approaching the end of their service life.
The heating element and overtemp switch must also be removed or accessed during the thermostat replacement process. Replacing all three parts during the same repair may help reduce future downtime, repeat labor, and additional shipping expenses.
How the Thermostat Works
The thermostat monitors and controls the temperature of the water inside the Hydrocollator. It is located near the lower portion of the unit around the control-panel area.
The part is preset at the factory to help maintain the unit’s normal operating temperature. If an adjustment is required after installation, the temperature setting can be changed using the adjustment screw located on the thermostat.
Because improper adjustment may cause the unit to operate too hot, too cool, or outside the recommended temperature range, thermostat installation and adjustment should be performed by a qualified service technician.
Compatibility
Item 10631 is designed for use with compatible Chattanooga Hydrocollator models, including:
- E-1
- E-2
- SS-2
- M-2
- M-4
Always confirm the model number and existing part number before ordering.
Qualified Installation Recommended
Replacing a thermostat requires access to internal electrical wiring, heating components, and temperature-safety devices. The Hydrocollator should be disconnected from electrical power, drained if necessary, and allowed to cool completely before service begins.
Installation should be completed by a qualified technician or someone familiar with Hydrocollator heating units and repair procedures.
